Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of shopping for a dress for a wedding I'm attending and I keep seeing the term "crepe" used to describe the fabric of various dresses. I'm not very familiar with different types of fabrics, so I'm wondering if anyone can explain to me what exactly crepe is and what it feels like? Is it stretchy or more rigid? Would it be comfortable to wear for a whole day at a wedding? Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide!

Hi folks,
I wanted to add my two cents to this thread as someone who has had both positive and negative experiences with crepe fabric. I've owned crepe dresses in the past that I loved because of their beautiful texture and unique shine. However, I've also owned other crepe dresses that have been itchy and uncomfortable to wear, particularly around the neckline and arms.
That being said, crepe is a beautiful fabric that can make for a stunning wedding guest dress if chosen and cared for carefully. It's a lightweight, flowy fabric that drapes beautifully and moves with the body. But, as others have mentioned, not all crepe is created equal. Some types of crepe can be scratchy and uncomfortable to wear, particularly if they contain scratchy fibers.
In my experience, the best way to ensure that the crepe dress you purchase is comfortable to wear is to try it on and wear it around for a while before committing to it. Pay attention to how it feels against your skin, particularly around the neckline and arms, and consider whether it would be comfortable to wear for an extended period.
As for care, crepe can be relatively easy to care for, provided that you follow the care label instructions carefully. Some types of crepe can be machine washed on a delicate cycle, while others may need to be dry cleaned.
In conclusion, while crepe fabric can make for a stunning wedding guest dress, be sure to consider comfort and care before making your purchase. Everyone's skin is different, and what may be comfortable for one person may be uncomfortable for another. Trust your instincts, and don't be afraid to try on different brands or types of crepe until you find the perfect dress for you.
