Hello everyone,
I am new to sewing and I am planning to make my own tote bags. However, I am a bit confused about what fabric to use. I have some leftover cotton fabric lying around and I was wondering if I could use that to make tote bags? Will cotton fabric be sturdy enough for a tote bag? I plan on using this bag for grocery shopping and carrying a few things around town.
Any advice and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Yes, you can definitely use cotton fabric to make tote bags. In fact, cotton is a popular choice of fabric for tote bags as it is sturdy and durable, and easy to work with. I have personally made several tote bags using cotton fabric and they hold up really well.
However, I suggest using a heavier weight cotton fabric, like canvas or duck cloth, as opposed to a lightweight cotton, as it will give your tote bag more structure and durability. Also, make sure to reinforce the seams and handles for added strength.
Overall, I highly recommend using cotton fabric for tote bags, especially if you're a beginner. It's an affordable and easy-to-find fabric that will give you great results. Good luck with your project!
