Hello everyone,
I'm relatively new to sewing, but I've been wanting to make my own handbag for a while now. I found this beautiful crepe fabric that I think would be perfect for my design, but I'm not sure if crepe is a durable enough fabric for a handbag. I don't want my new bag falling apart after only a few uses!
If anyone has experience using crepe for making handbags, I would love to hear your tips and advice. Specifically, how can I reinforce the seams to make sure they hold up? Any other tips for using crepe in handbag-making would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience using crepe fabric for a handbag. I made my handbag using crepe, and it turned out lovely. However, I had to take a few additional steps to make sure it was sturdy enough to hold up.
To reinforce the seams, I used both the interfacing technique and a topstitching method. I sewed along the edges of my seam allowances to hold them down, which helped prevent fraying while also adding a bit of extra strength. This technique also gave my handbag a professional finish.
Another tip I have is to be careful with your cutting and handling of the fabric. Crepe fabric can be slippery and difficult to control, so it's essential to take the time to properly stabilize it before cutting. I recommend using a rotary cutter or sharp scissors to avoid fraying or snagging the fabric.
When sewing the lining to the crepe fabric, I found it helpful to sew the raw edges together and turn my bag inside out before topstitching the edges. This gave me a seamless and polished look inside my handbag.
Overall, I found crepe fabric to be a lovely and unique material to use for a handbag. It adds a beautiful texture and flow to the design, but requires some additional attention to make sure it holds up over time.
