Hi everyone,
I'm currently in the process of getting my new apartment set up and I'm looking to make my own curtains to add a personal touch to it. I'm not very experienced in sewing, so I was hoping to make something simple. I was wondering if cotton fabric would be a suitable choice for making curtains? I know cotton is commonly used for clothing, but I'm not sure if it would work for curtains as well.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help.

As a home decorator, I completely agree with the previous comments about cotton being a great choice of fabric for making curtains. However, it's important to note that the quality and texture of the cotton fabric can also make a big difference in the final look of the curtains.
For instance, a high-quality, textured cotton fabric can work wonders in adding an element of interest and depth to a plain or neutral-colored room. However, if you're using lightweight, thin cotton fabric, you might want to consider hanging a thicker lining at the back of the curtains to enhance the durability of the fabric and provide better insulation, especially if you live in an area with colder climates.
In terms of the style and design of the curtains, you can also play around with different heading styles and add features like tiebacks, trims, and accessories to enhance the overall visual appeal of the curtains. For instance, a boho-inspired room can benefit from using long, flowing cotton curtains with fringed edges, while a modern or minimalistic space can look great with clean, structured cotton curtains with a simple pinch pleat header.
To sum up, while cotton is an excellent fabric choice for making curtains, it's essential to consider the quality, texture, and style of the fabric to get the best results.
